Correct Answer - Option 1 : Eris

The correct answer is Eris.

  • This dwarf planet was discovered in January 2005 by a team of Palomar Observatory under the leadership of Mike Brown.
  • It is the second-largest known dwarf planet in our solar system and the most massive one.

  • The planet derived its name from the Greek goddess Eris (goddess of discord and strife) as it remains the topic of scientific debate about the definition of a planet.
  • Its size is almost the same as that of Pluto with a radius of about 1,163 km (approx. one-fifth the radius of Earth). Its mass is 127 percent that of Pluto.
  • It is about 96.3 astronomical units away from the Sun and sunlight takes more than 9 hours to reach the surface of Eris.
  • Eris makes one revolution around the Sun is approx. 558 Earth years and one rotation in every 25.9 hours.
  • The name of the moon of Eris is Dysnomia. This name is derived from Eris' daughter Dysnomia, the demon goddess of lawlessness.
  • Its surface temperature varies between around 30 and 56 K and the surface has the presence of methane ice.
