  • DAHSALA SYSTEM
    • This Land Revenue System was introduced during Akbar's reign (by the finance minister of Akbar Raja Todarmal) in 1580-82.
    • Under this system, the revenue was collected on the basis of the average produce of different crops along with the average prices prevailing over the last ten (dah) years. The revenue was collected in cash by converting the state share (one-third) into money on the basis of a schedule of average prices over the last ten years.
  • PROCLAMATION OF MAHZAR
    • In 1597, Mahzar Nama was declared (Proclamation of Mahzar) by emperor Akbar.
    • It gave the emperor the right to choose any of the interpretations in case there was a conflict of views among people of different religions.
    • This was brought to suppress the intolerant, orthodox religious authority (Mujtahid) so that free development of genuine religious spirit could occur.
  • ABOLITION OF JIZYA
    • Subsequent to the alliance of Akbar with Rajputs (after his marriage with princess Jodha), the Jizya tax was removed in the year 1564.
    • It was a yearly tax levied from the non-Muslim subjects (dhimmi) living in an Islamic state.

  • Jizya was re-introduced by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the year 1679.
  • ESTABLISHMENT OF IBADAT KHANA
    • Akbar had a great eagerness to learn about different religions, so in 1575 he established an Ibadat Khana (Hall of Prayer) at Fatehpur Sikri.
    • This was the place where scholars from different religions (Hinduism, Islam, Zoroastrianism, and Christianity) were invited to have discussions over religious and spiritual themes.
