Correct Answer - Option 4 : 60

Given:

One student who scored 20 marks more than the other, his score was 60% of the sum of their marks.

Calculation:

Let the students be A and B

Let the marks secured by B = x

Marks secured by A = x + 20

Sum of their marks = x + x + 20 = 2x + 20

Also, x + 20 = 60% of sum of marks

⇒ 0.60 × (2x + 20) = x + 20

⇒ 1.2x + 12 = x + 20

⇒ 0.2x = 8

⇒ x = 8/0.2 = 40 marks

Marks secured by A = 40 + 20 = 60 marks

∴ The correct answer is 60 marks.
