Correct Answer - Option 2 : Fat

The correct answer is Fat.

  • The stones present in the gall bladder affect the digestion of fat.
    • The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile from the liver.
    • The bile is then released into the first section of the small intestine.
    • Where it helps your body to break down and absorb fats from food.
    • Gallstones are supersaturated, pebble-like deposits of bile inside the gallbladder.
    • There are two types of gallstones -
      • cholesterol stones - which account for 80 per cent of gallstones.
      • pigment stones - which are composed of bilirubin, a chemical found in bile, according to the National Institutes of Health.
  • Hence, option 2 is correct.

  • Bile, an emulsifier liquid, is made by the liver and later stored in the gallbladder and released in the duodenum.
  • Bile is composed of bile salts, cholesterol and bile pigments.
  • Bile salts are detergents, amphiphilic molecules, or rather, molecules with a polar water-soluble portion and a non-polar fat-soluble portion.
  • Bile is concentrated and stored in the gallbladder.
  • When foods high in fat are ingested, the gallbladder contracts to release bile into the duodenum.
  • This is the reason why patients with gallstones are advised not to eat fatty foods, because the reactive contraction of the gallbladder may move some of the stones to the point of blocking the duct that drains bile into the duodenum, causing pain and other complications.
