Correct Answer - Option 2 : Forest fires.

The correct answer is Forest fires.

  • The district-wise analysis of forest fire frequency data between 2005 to 2016 depicted that Paschim Singhbhum, Palamu, and Garhwa districts have witnessed 30.48%, 18.39%, and 8.98% of forest fires respectively when considering the whole Jharkhand forest fire.

  • The statistics available with the Forest Survey of India (FSI) in the year 2021 also showed Jharkhand has emerged at the third spot in the country after recording the maximum number of forest fire incidents even before the advent of summer.
  • The early summer heat and extended dry spell are attributed as one of the reasons behind the early instances of forest fires.
  • As the forests burn, carbon stored in trees and vegetation combusts releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
