Correct Answer - Option 4 : 18 hours

Given:

A pipe can take 36 hours more to fill a tank due to a leakage which is half of its inflow

Concept:

If a tap can fill a tank in x hours, then the tank filled by the tap in 1 hour = 1 / x of the total tank.

Calculation:

Let the inflow fill the tank in b hours.

⇒ (1 / b) – (1 / 2b) = 1 / 36

⇒ (2 – 1) / 2b = 1 / 36

⇒ 2b = 36

⇒ b = 18

∴ The inflow can fill the tank in 18 hours.
