Correct Answer - Option 3 : 12

Given:

The marked price of an article = Rs. 530

After two successive discounts = x% and 15% respectively

The selling price of an article = 396.44

Calculations:

After x% discount on  marked price = 530 - 530 × x%

⇒ 530(1 - x%)

After second discount the price becomes = 530(1-x%) - 530(1-x%)(15%)

⇒ 530(1 - x%) (1 - 15%)

 530(1 - x%) (1 - 15%)  = 396.44

⇒ 530 × 85/100 (1 - x%) = 396.44

⇒ (1 - x/100) = 396.44 × 2/901

⇒ ((100 -x)/100) = 22/25

⇒ (100 - x) = 100 × 22/25

⇒ 100 - x = 88

⇒ 100 - 8 = x

⇒ x = 12

∴ The required value of x is 12
