Direction: Study the direction and answer the following questions.

Train Shatabadi Express of length 180 meters can cross a tree in 12 seconds. Another train August express of length 240 meters crosses the tree at the same time as the train Shatabadi. Both the trains entered a bridge of length 270 meters at the same time moving in opposite directions.

Shatabadi train started from city P at 11:00 am and traveled towards city R and after two hours, August started at R and traveled towards P. If the two trains met at 7:00 pm find the time taken by Shatabadi to reach city R after the two trains met each other.

Correct Answer - Option 2 : 8 h

Given:

Length of train Shatabadi express = 180 m

Length of train August express = 240 m

Time Shatabadi express takes to cross a tree = 12 sec

Time August express takes to cross a tree = 12 sec

Formula used:

Speed = Distance/Time

Calculation:

Speed of Shatabadi express = 180/12 = 15 m/sec  = 15 × (18/5) = 54 km/h

Speed of August express = 240/12 = 20 m/sec = 20 × (18/5) = 72 km/h

Total time Shatabati express takes to reach the meeting point = 8 hours

Distance covered by Shatabadi express in 8 h = 54 × 8 = 432 km

Distance covered by August express in (8 – 2) hr = 72 × 6 = 432 km

As the distance covered by both the trains are same = 432 km

Shatabadi express will take 8 h to reach point R after the meeting.

The time the Shatabadi train takes to reach the point R is 8 hours.
