Correct Answer - Option 4 : Pulneys

The correct answer is Pulneys.

  • The most commonly used coffee beans are Robusta and Arabica grown in the hills of Kerala, Karnataka (Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan and Coorg), and Tamil Nadu (Nilgiri district, Yercaud and Kodaikanal).
  • Coffee production is dominated in the hill tracts of South Indian states, with Karnataka accounting for 71%, followed by Kerala with 21% and Tamil Nadu(5%).
  • Pulneys is the popular region where coffee grows and is most popular for the bright, bluebell-like Kurinji flower, which grows once in 12 years.
  • The Pulneys hill range is situated adjacent to the popular Kodaikanal hill resort, on the southernmost tip of the Western Ghats. Pulneys coffee comes from Tamil Nadu.

  • Coffee is also grown in non-traditional areas like Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and the North East States.
  • The main varieties of coffee in India are
    • Robusta
    • Arabica
  • Arabica variety of coffee was introduced in Baba Budan Giri hill ranges of Karnataka in 17th century.
