Correct Answer - Option 4 : Inclusive education

The concept of inclusive education is comparatively new in the field of special education. It means providing education to all disabled children having different disabilities in a regular school along with non-disabled children.

  • This scheme becomes successful only when the regular school has an open door for disabled children.
  • The teachers and other personnel in the school must be well equipped and know the special needs of children with different disabilities. It is well known that normally hearing children also need support and special considerations.
  • No two children are alike; whether disabled or not. Their abilities and needs vary. Similarly, hearing impaired children need support and special consideration. The implication is that such additional support must 'be made available in the school.
  • The main objective of inclusive education is not only to give education to children with disabilities in a regular setting but to bring about the development of the regular school in such a way that the needs of all children, including those with disabilities, are met.
  • At times, the hearing impaired child may have to attend a regular school, even though it is not essentially an inclusive one. As we saw earlier, there are quite a few special schools available to hearing-impaired children.
  • The children who live in remote areas or have no access to any type of special education are sometimes admitted to the regular school under compulsion. Such schools are meant for hearing children and do not have any provision for special training for a child who has a hearing impairment.

Hence, we can conclude that an inclusive education system should be made for hearing impaired children.

  • Integrated Education: Education in the Regular Classroom with Part-time Withdrawal from the Class for Special Attention.
  • Special schools: In a special school, the focus is on children with a particular disability. As a result, the school curriculum, the way of teaching, and the resources and services made available are geared towards meeting the needs of children with that disability.
  • Non-formal education: In non-f0ormal education, the methods of teaching are not formal; rather, they are informal and participatory. The classes are held mostly in the evening or night when the disabled adults are free. The objective of this education is to help them overcome the disadvantage faced by them due to their handicap and improve their quality of life.
