Correct Answer - Option 1 : Heterosporous

Concept-

  • Plants are divided into five groups- Thallophytes, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.
  • Pteridophytes are the first terrestrial plants to acquire vascular tissues – xylem and phloem.
  • Pteridophytes have two groups-
    • The majority of the pteridophytes are homosporous i.e., one type of spores formed.
    • While some pteridophytes are exceptionally heterosporous.
  • An example of pteridophytes is marsilea.

Explanation-

  • Marsilea is heterosporous.
  • The formation of spores takes place in sporangia.
  • Sporangia are formed at the abaxial surface of leaves.
  • The leaves on which sporangia are formed are called sporophylls.
  • Sporangia are formed in sporocarp.

Therefore sporocarp of marsilea is heterosporous.

  • Homosporous means one type of spores formed.
  • An example of homosporous is Pteridium.
