Correct Answer - Option 2 : Spectral resolution

Resolution: it refers to the potential detail provided by the imagery. There are four types of resolution are as follows,

Resolution Characteristics
Spatial resolution
  • The ability of the sensor to detect the smallest single object on the Earth's surface is referred to as Spatial Resolution.
  • Extraction of details from the image highly depends upon the spatial resolution.
  • The spatial resolution of the sensor highly depends on their Instantaneous Field of View (IFOV).IFOV is the angular cone of visibility of the sensor.
  • It determines the area of the Earth’s surface which is “seen” from a given altitude at a particular moment of time.
  • The size of the area viewed is determined by multiplying IFOV by the distance from the ground to the sensor.
Spectral resolution
  • Simply we can define the ability of the sensor to record the information on a particular spectral range as called Spectral Resolution or the ability of the sensor to define fine wavelengths.
  • The spectral resolution is highly important while designing the sensor.
  • It defines the nature of the study. Different objects have a different spectral signatures.
Radiometric resolution
  • Radiometric resolution refers to how much information is in a pixel and is expressed in units of bits.
  •  A single bit of information represents a binary decision of yes or no, with a mathematical value of 1 or 0.
  • Increasing radiometric resolution means there is more variability in the pixel, it does not necessarily mean that more is better.
  • Radiometric resolution corresponds to the sensitivity of a sensor, i.e. its ability to measure and to enable distinction within the same spectral band of differences in the electromagnetic energy reflected by the elementary ground surfaces.
Temporal resolution
  • Like other resolution properties, temporal resolution is also important in Remote Sensing studies.
  • Temporal resolution means the revisit of the satellite over a particular area at the same interval of time.
  • The temporal resolutions of the satellites are usually several days which enables to capture the images of an area regularly and can monitor well.
  • The images collected over a given interval are called multi-temporal data, which is the main advantage.

Therefore, the correct answer is Spectral resolution.
