Correct Answer - Option 1 : Ecotone
Topic Description
Ecotone
  • An ecotone is a zone of junction or a transition area between two biomes (diverse ecosystems).
  • Ecotone is the zone where two communities meet and integrate.
  • For e.g. the mangrove forests represent an ecotone between marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
  • This is the transition zone between two ecosystems
Ecotype
  • An ecotype is a variant in which the phenotypic differences are too few or too subtle to warrant being classified as a subspecies.
  • These different variants can occur in the same geographic region where distinct habitats such as meadow, forest, swamp, and sand dunes provide ecological niches.

Biotope

  • biotope is an area of uniform environmental conditions providing a living place for a specific assemblage of plants and animals.
  • Biotope is almost synonymous with the term habitat
Biome
  • A biome is a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat.
  • E.g. Rainforest biome or tundra biome.

Therefore it is clear that Ecotone is the transition zone between two ecosystems.
