  • Yardangs are sharp and sinuous ridges that extend parallel to the wind direction. Yardangs are formed by the action of the wind in the arid region. They are mainly found in Arebian desert (Caliche limestone), Sinai Peninsula (Nubian Sandstone), Taklimakan Desert, Mojave Desert etc.
  • Yardang made of Eocene limestone are found in Jaisalmer Basin. The Jaisalmer Basin occupies an area of 42000 sq. km and much of it is covered by the modern sand-dunes.
  • Yardang made of clay are found in Dasht-e Khash desert of Nimruz Province in Afghanistan.
