Correct Answer - Option 2 : 28

Given:

Average of three consecutive even number = 14 + 1/2 × (first number)

Formula used:

Average = Total sum/Total number

Total sum = Average × Total number

Calculation:

Let three consecutive even numbers are x, x + 2 and x + 4

Average = [x + (x + 2) + (x + 4)] / 3 = (3x + 6) / 3 = x + 2

Accordingly,

x + 2 = 14 + (1/2)x

⇒ x + 2 = 14 + x/2

⇒ x + 2 = (28 + x)/2

⇒2(x + 2) = 28 + x

⇒ 2x + 4 = 28 + x

⇒ x = 24

The last number is (24 + 4) = 28

∴ The last number is 28.
