  • Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form popular in coastal Karnataka districts.
  • The word Yakshagana is derived from two words: Yaksha means Nature's spirit and Gana means Song.
  • It was developed in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and western parts of Chikmangalur districts.

  • A total of 13 Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) elements from India have been inscribed to date on the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
