  • Secular means that the Indian government will remain neutral in matters of religion.

  • The Government of India will neither favour any religious creed nor oppose any religious creed.
  • It also states that civic affairs of the state should be kept separate from religion.
  • The 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976 defining secularism in the Indian Constitution, added the term 'creed secularism' to its preamble.
