Correct Answer - Option 4 : B

Given:

The initial number of students is 1200

School canteen buys 3200 kg lentils for 20 days

After 6 days later 180 children left.

Concept used:

Here we can use the unitary method

Calculation:

1200 students in 20 days can consume 3200 kg lentils

⇒ 1200 students in 1 day consume = (3200/1200) kg

⇒ 1 student in 1 day consumes = {3200/(1200 × 20)} kg = 2/15 kg

⇒ 1200 students in 6 days consume = {(2/15) × 1200 × 6} kg = 960 kg

Now, the remaining lentils = (3200 - 960) kg = 2240 kg

So, the remaining students = (1200 - 180) = 1020

Let the required day be D to consume the remaining lentils

So, according to the question, we can say

(2/15) × 1020 × D = 2240

⇒ D = (280/17) = 16.47 ≈ 16.5 days

∴ In 16.5 more days will be sufficient for the remaining children to finish the remaining lentils.
