Correct Answer - Option 3 : 1972

The Correct Answer is 1972.

  • At the 1972 Munich Games, the Indian hockey team won a bronze medal, its tenth consecutive medal at the Olympics. In Munich in 1972, as in Mexico, the script folded.
  • India rounded off with a second bronze medal in a row. It was agreed by the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) to send a young team to the 1972 Olympics.
  • This time, there were only four members of the 1968 Olympic squad picked. Three of them were Perumal Krishnamurthy, Ajit Singh and the veteran Harbinder Singh. The fourth, Harmek Singh, was appointed the side's captain.
  • The coach was KD Singh Babu, captain of the Olympic-winning Indian hockey team in 1952, and the manager was two-time Olympic gold medallist Keshav Dutt.
  • The young squad, which boasted exciting players such as Ashok Kumar, son of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand, and Leander Paes' father Vece Paes, were inspired by legendary figures.

  • India first took part in the 1900 Olympic Games, with a lone competitor (Norman Pritchard) winning two medals in athletics, both silver.
  • The nation first sent a team to the 1920 Summer Olympic Games and has since taken part in every Summer Games. India has participated in several Winter Olympic Games, starting in 1964. 28 medals have been won by Indian athletes, all at the Summer Games.
  • India's national field hockey team was dominant in Olympic competition for a period of time, winning eleven medals in 12 Olympics between 1920 and 1980.
  • The run consisted of a total of 8 gold medals and six consecutive 1928-1956 gold medals.
