  • States Reorganisation Commission consisted of Fazal Ali, K. M. Panikkar and H. N. Kunzru.
    • Some of its recommendations were implemented in the States Reorganisation Act of 1956.
  • The new States formed as a result of the reorganization of States in 1956 are Andhra Pradesh, Bombay, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
  • 43 districts of Madhya Pradesh were there in 1956 after the Reorganisation of States was done.

  • At present, there are 52 districts in Madhya Pradesh and these districts are grouped into 10 administrative divisions.
  • In October 2018, a new district called Niwari was created by partitioning the Tikamgarh district. It became the 52nd district of the state.
    In March 2020, a bill was passed by the Madhya Pradesh government to create three new districts namely, Nagda, Maihar, and Chachaura-Binaganj.
