Correct Answer - Option 2 : Andhra Pradesh

The correct answer is Andhra Pradesh.

  • The Tummalapalle Mine is a uranium mine located in Kadapa in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, in the village of Tumalapalli.
  • Results from research conducted by India's Atomic Energy Commission in 2011 have led analysts to conclude that this mine may have one of the world's largest uranium reserves.
  • On 19 July 2011, Dr. S. Banerjee, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy, who was also Chairman of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission, confirmed reserves of 49,000 tonnes and suggested that it could be three times larger to make Tummalapalle the largest uranium deposit mine in the world.
  • In 2014, the estimates were subsequently raised to 85,000 tonnes.
  • Recent findings allegedly show that the reserves are as deep as 1,000 meters.
  • This finding has significantly increased India's ability to generate energy from nuclear power plants.
  • India produced about 3.13 percent of its energy from nuclear plants as of 2018.
  • These results indicate that this output can be increased to more than 30 percent by 2050, which is essential if India hopes to reduce its carbon emissions, pollution, and use.
  • Not only will this domestic uranium discovery improve India's nuclear energy ambitions, but it will also help cut costs by moving from costly electricity sources like coal.
