Correct Answer - Option 2 : Antarctica desert.

The correct answer is Antarctica desert.

  • The world's largest desert is the Antarctica desert.
  • The two largest deserts on Earth are in the polar areas.
  • The Antarctic Polar Desert covers the continent of Antarctica and has a size of about 5.5 million square miles.
  • The second-largest desert is the Arctic Polar Desert.
    • It extends over parts of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.
    • It has a surface area of about 5.4 million square miles.

  • Thar:
    • The Thar Desert, also called the Great Indian Desert, arid region of rolling sandhills on the Indian subcontinent.
    • It is located partly in Rajasthan state, northwestern India, and partly in Punjab and Sindh (Sind) provinces, eastern Pakistan.
    •  It is bordered by the irrigated Indus River plain to the west, the Punjab Plain to the north and northeast, the Aravalli Range to the southeast, and the Rann of Kachchh to the south.
    • The name Thar is derived from thul, the general term for the region’s sand ridges.
  • Taklamakan:
    • The Taklamakan Desert, also known as the “Place of Ruins” or the “Sea of Death”, is the largest desert in China.
    • Lying between the Tien Shan and Kunlun mountain ranges, the Taklamakan Desert is a waterless death trap, experiencing an average annual rainfall of just 0.4in (1cm).
    • Legend states that you can get into the Taklamakan, but you will never get out.
  • Gobi:
    • The Gobi, also called the Gobi Desert, great desert and semidesert region of Central Asia.
    • The Gobi (from Mongolian gobi, meaning “waterless place”) stretches across huge portions of both Mongolia and China.
