Correct Answer - Option 2 : 1,500

Given:

Two successive discounts of 20% and 12% is Rs. 36

Formula used:

Successive discounts = (x + y – xy/100)

Calculation:

Successive discounts = (x + y – xy/100)

x = 20%, y = 12%

⇒ (x + y – xy/100)

⇒ [20 + 12 – (20 × 12/100)]

⇒ 32 – 2.4 = 29.6

According to the question:

(100 – 29.6)x/100 – (100 – 32)x/100 = 36

⇒ (70.4x – 68x)/100 = 36

⇒ (2.4x/100) = 36

⇒ x = (36 × 1000)/24 = 1500

∴ The marked price of the article is Rs. 1500.
