Development refers to an increase in structure for better and enhanced functioning of organs. It is a wide and continuous process that starts from the pre-natal stage.

  • In the pre-natal stage, the baby develops inside the mother's womb and becomes a mature one by passing through three different stages of prenatal development.
  • The pre-natal stage is the development process of the child, that occurs during the period of 38 weeks prior to the child, during this period a single cell becomes a full-term baby.

The three stages of pre-natal development include:

  • Stage 1: The Germinal Stage:
    • The two-week period after conception is said to be the Germinal StageConception occurs when a sperm cell combines with an egg cell from a Zygote
  • Stage 2: The Embryonic Stage:
    • The Embryonic Stage lasts from 8 weeks from conception. The developing ball of cells is termed as Embryo. Embryo start to resemble human being.
  • Stage 3: The Fetal Stage:
    • The last stage of prenatal development is the Fetal Stage, which lasts from 9 weeks until birth or 38 to 40 weeks. Skeleton and muscles develop at this stage .

Hence, it could be concluded that Embryonic stage of the development refers to the period of 2-8 weeks.
