Development refers to

  • Development is a process that creates growth, progress, positive change, or the addition of physical, economic, environmental, social. and demographic components.
  • Human development refers to the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of humans

Principle of Sequential development- The principle of sequential states that every individual although exhibit difference in the change they follow the same sequence of change. Cephalocaudal and Proximodistal tendencies are found to be followed in maintaining sequence and direction of development.
  • The cephalocaudal tendency exhibits that the development proceeds in the longitudinal direction that is from head to foot. That the reason why the child first gains control overhead before he/she starts walking.
  • Proximodistal tendency proceeds from near to the distant and from part of the body near the centre develop first then the extremities. Therefore the child in the earliest stage of development exercises on the fundamental muscles rather than the smaller muscles are fine motor skills.
Hence, we conclude that 'Cephalocaudal law' is associated with development.
