Correct Answer - Option 2 : An output device to produce drawings and graphics

Plotter:

  • A plotter is a graphics printer that draws images with ink pens.
  • Plotters actually draw point-to-point lines directly from vector graphics files.
  • The plotter was the first computer output device that could print graphics as well as accommodate full-size engineering and architectural drawings.
  • There are two main types of plotters – drum and flatbed plotters.
    • Drum plotters (also called roller plotters) spin the paperback and forth on a cylindrical drum while the ink pens move left and right. By combining these two directions, lines can be drawn in any direction.
    • Flatbed plotters have a large horizontal surface on which the paper is placed. A traveling bar draws lines on the paper as it moves across the surface.

Therefore, the term Plotter is best described as an output device to produce drawings and graphics.
