  • Kanaklata Barua was a teen freedom fighter from Assam who laid down her life during the Indian Freedom Movement.
    • He ( Born 22 December 1924 – Died 20 September 1942) was also called Birbala and Shaheed (martyr).
  • He was an Indian independence activist and AISF leader who was shot dead by the British police while leading a procession bearing the National Flag during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
  • During the Quit India Movement Barua joined the Mrityu Bahini, a death squad comprising groups of youth from the Gohpur subdivision of Assam.
  • On 20 September 1942, the Bahini decided it would hoist the national flag at the local police station.
  • A procession of unarmed villagers was led by Barua to do so.
  • The police under Rebati Mahan Som the officer-in-charge of the police station warned the procession of dire consequences if they proceeded with their plan.
  • Barua was only 17 years of age at the time of her martyrdom.

  • Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay (3 April 1903 – 29 October 1988) was an Indian social reformer and freedom activist.
    • She was most remembered for her contribution to the Indian independence movement; for being the driving force behind the renaissance of Indian handicrafts, handlooms, and theatre in independent India; and for the upliftment of the socio-economic standard of Indian women by pioneering the cooperation.
  • Matangini Hazra
    • Matangini Hazra was an Indian revolutionary who participated in the Indian independence movement until she was shot dead by the British Indian police in front of the Tamluk Police Station on 29 September 1942.
    • She was affectionately known as Gandhi buri, Bengali for old lady Gandhi.
  • Moolmati
    • She was the mother of the great Indian revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil. 
    • She was a simple woman who supported her son’s revolutionary ideas and helped him in his struggle for freedom.
