Given:

A 100 m long train is running at the speed of 30 km/hr. 

The train passes a man standing near the railway line.

Concepts used:

1 km = 1000 m, 1 hr = 3,600 seconds (s)

Time = Distance/Speed

Calculation:

Length of train = Distance covered in passing the man = 100 m

Speed of train = 30 km/hr 

⇒ Speed of train = (30 × 1000)/(1 × 3,600) m/s 

⇒ Speed of train = 25/3 m/s

Time = Distance covered by train in passing the man/Speed of train

⇒ 100/(25/3) seconds

⇒ 12 seconds

∴ The train took 12 seconds in passing the man standing near the railway line.
