Correct Answer - Option 1 : Cm-1

The correct answer is option 1) i.e. Cm-1

CONCEPT:

  • Continuous charge distribution system: It is a system describing a charge that is uniformly distributed over a conductor. There are three types of charge distribution:
    • Linear charge distribution: Charge varies along the length of the conductor.

It is given by:

\(\lambda = \frac{dq}{dl}\)

Where dq is the charge and dl is the length of the conductor.

  • Surface charge distribution: Charge varies along the surface of the conductor.

It is given by:

\(\sigma = \frac{dq}{ds}\)

Where dq is the charge and ds is the surface area of the conductor.

  • Volume charge distribution: Charge varies along the volume of the conductor.

It is given by:

\(\rho = \frac{dq}{dv}\)

Where dq is the charge and dv is the volume of the conductor.

EXPLANATION:

The linear charge distribution is given by:

\(\lambda = \frac{dq}{dl}\).

  • The units of charge q and length l are C and m respectively.
  • Hence, the unit of linear charge distribution is Cm-1
