Correct Answer - Option 1 : decreases

The correct answer is decreases.

  • In normal atmospheric conditions, when no wind is blowing the entire mass of air will exert pressure on a body lying on the earth.
  • The wind is air pressure converted into movement of air. When the wind blows, the air mass can not exert pressure as it was exerting when no wind was blowing, because now some air from the atmosphere is moving and it won't exert enough pressure. This means that higher wind speeds will show lower air pressure readings.
  • So, in a windy situation, the air pressure felt on a body will be lesser than that of what was observed when there was no wind blowing.

  • How does the wind blow:
    • Due to solar heat and local weather conditions, part of the atmosphere heat unequally causing a difference in pressure.
    • Gases in the atmosphere move from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas.
    • The bigger the difference between the pressures, the faster the air will move from the high to the low pressure.
    • That rush of air is the wind we experience.
