Correct Answer - Option 2 : Comparison with standard such as slip gauges

Explanation:

Comparator:

  1. Comparators are used for measuring the dimensions from a reference value the datum is generally established using slip gauges.
  2. Comparator is another form of linear measuring method, which is quick and more convenient for checking a large number of identical dimensions.
  3. During the measurement, a comparator is able to give the deviation of the dimension from the set dimension.
  4. In a mass-production system, the dimension to be checked is having a standard value so only the variation from the standard dimension is to be checked.
  5. The value of deviation is very small and for proper reading, it must be get magnified. Now depending on the principal used for magnification, the comparators are classified as-
    • Mechanical Comparator
    • Electrical Comparator
    • Pneumatic Comparator
    • Electromechanical Comparator
    • Optical Comparator
    • Mechanical optical comparators
