  • Samved is considered to be Vedas of chants and melodies.

  • Saman means song and Veda means knowledge.
  • Out of the four Vedas, Samaveda is the one that contains music it.
  • It is considered as the storehouse of knowledge of chants.
  • It contains melodies and is believed to be the oldest existing one.
  • It consists of 1549 verses of which 75 verses have been adapted from Rig Veda. 

  • Sangeet Ratnakar is also an important musical text written in Sanskrit but it is not older than Samved.
