• Kisan Rail scheme:
  • It was announced in Budget 2020.
  • The railways began its Kisan Rail services to transport perishables from August 7, 2020.
  • The first such train, carrying vegetables and fruits, was started between Devlali in Maharashtra and Danapur in Bihar. 
  • The train was flagged off via video conferencing by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchyati Raj, Narendra Singh Tomar and Minister of Railways and Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.
  • It ran for transportation of perishable commodities, through the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. 
  • It helped in bringing perishable agricultural products like vegetables, fruits to the market in a short period of time, and the train with frozen containers is expected to build a seamless national cold supply chain for perishables, inclusive of fish, meat and milk.
