Substance theory

  1. The substance theory of Aristotle underlies his entire philosophy.
  2. Substance theory is the belief that substances are the ultimate things in the universe.
  3. The universe at rock bottom is not made up of elementary particles but substances.
  4. This is completely different from our modern view of the world.
  5. Substance theory or substance-attribute theory is a theory developed by Aristotle.
  6. It is an ontological theory which states that substances are dependent on each other and cannot exist without another entity.
  7. Aristotle used the word substance with regard to its category (subject/predicate).
  8. He also stated that a substance is always the subject of the predicate, the subject is self-conceived and self-existent.

Hence, Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is NOT the correct explanation of (A).
