Correct Answer - Option 4 : 19, 39

Given:

The average number of apples with X and Y is 14. The average number of apples with Y and Z is 29. The average number of apples with X and Z is 24.

Formula:

Average of n numbers a1, a2 ... an = (a1 + a2 + ... an)/n

Calculation:

Total number of apples with X and Y - (X + Y) = 14 × 2 = 28       ----(1)

Similarly,

Y + Z = 29 × 2 = 58      ----(2)

And, X + Z = 24 × 2 = 48     ----(3)

Subtracting equation (1) from (3)

We get

Z – Y = 48 – 28 = 20      ----(4)

Now, adding equation (2) and (4)

We get

2z = 58 + 20

Z = 78/2 = 39

Y = 58 – 39 = 19
