Correct Answer - Option 4 : Shopkeeper II, Rs. 486.4

Given:

Successive discount in shop I = 12.5%

Successive discount in shop II = 20% and 5%

Marked price of pant = Rs. 640

Formula used:

Successive decrease = x + y – [(xy)/100]

Calculation:

Overall Discount% offered by shopkeeper I = 12.5% + 12.5% - [(12.5 × 12.5)/100]

= 25 - 1.5625

= 23.4375%

∴ Discount price = (23.4375/100) × 640

= Rs. 150

∴ Selling price of shopkeeper II = 640 - 150

= Rs. 490

Overall Discount% offered by shopkeeper II = 20 + 5 – [(20 × 5)/100]

= 25 – 1

= 24%

∴ Discount price = (24/100) × 640

= Rs. 153.6

∴ Selling price of shopkeeper II = 640 - 153.6

= Rs. 486.4

∴ Shopkeeper II sells the pant at lower price.
