Correct Answer - Option 4 : Only (A)

The correct answer is Only (A).

  • The dust storms originating in Rajasthan in May and June months are caused due to origin of convectional currents at few places.

  • Convectional currents
    • Convection is the circular motion that happens when warmer air, which has faster-moving molecules, less dense, rises, while the cooler air drops down.
    • Convection is a major factor in weather.
    • It can result in the wind, clouds, or other weather like Storm.
    • In Rajasthan, sandstorms become more frequent because the strong heating of the air over the desert causes the lower atmosphere to become unstable.
    • This instability mixes strong winds in the middle troposphere downward to the surface, producing stronger winds at the surface.
    • Dust storms are caused by very strong winds or Convectional currents, often produced by thunderstorms.
    • Rajasthan experiences extreme hot climate during the summer seasons.
    • The months of May and June are considered as peak times when summer is at its peak.
    • During this time the place also experiences intense level in hot climatic conditions.
    • The formation of heat is also linked with the formation of conventional currents within this climatic belt. Hence option 1 is correct.

  •  Aravalli hills parallel to southwestern winds
    • The Aravallis system lies parallel to the direction of South West monsoon winds coming from the Arabian Sea.
    • So this mountain system is unable to check these winds and hence, western Rajasthan is a low rainfall area or dry. Hence option 2 is incorrect.
