Correct Answer - Option 1 : sludge

Explanation:

Turbidity:

  • Turbidity is the measure of the cleanliness of boiler feed water.
  • Less turbidity indicates clean water and high turbidity indicates contaminated water.
  • Contaminated water contains suspended insoluble particles like mud, sand, sediments, etc. and during boiler operation, it settles down in the boiler which is called sludge.
  • Turbidity decreases when filtration is perfect.

Embrittlement:

  • When there is the loss of ductility and toughness in steel with little change in other properties then it is termed as embrittlement and it can lead to sudden failure.
  • Embrittlement is a form of stress corrosion cracking that takes place along grain boundaries.
