Correct Answer - Option 1 : \(\frac{5}{2}, -2\)

Given:

2x2 – 5x – 4 = 0

Formula used:

Sum of roots = – b/a

Product of roots = c/a

Concept used:

ax2 + bx + c = 0

Calculation:

2x2 – 5x – 4 = 0

⇒ Standard equation is ax2 + bx + c = 0

On comparing

⇒ a = 2, b = – 5, c = – 4

Sum of roots = – b/a

⇒ Sum of roots =  – (– 5/2)

⇒ Sum of roots = 5/2

Product of roots = c/a

⇒ Product of roots = – 4/2

⇒ Product of roots = – 2

∴ The sum of roots and product of roots for the given quadratic is  5/2 and – 2
