Correct Answer - Option 1 : 24 hours

Given:

A tap takes 24 hours extra to fill a tank due to a leakage equivalent to half of its inflow.

Calculation:

Let time taken by inlet pipe to fill the tank be x

As given

Time taken by outlet to empty the tank = 2x

Then,

⇒ 1/x – 1/2x = 1/(x + 24)

⇒ 1/2x = 1/(x + 24)

⇒ x = 24

∴ The inlet pipe alone can fill the tank in 24 hours.
