Correct Answer - Option 2 : Glucocorticoids

The correct answer is Glucocorticoids.

  • Glucocorticoids are secreted by adrenal glands. In response to signals from a brain region called the hypothalamus, the adrenal glands secrete glucocorticoids, hormones that produce a response to stress.
  • The pancreatic islets or islets of Langerhans are the regions of the pancreas that contain it's endocrine (hormone-producing) cells, discovered in 1869 by German pathological anatomist Paul Langerhans.
  • There are five types of cells in the islets of Langerhans:
    • Beta cells secrete insulin
    • Alpha cells secrete glucagon
    • PP cells (also called F cells) secrete pancreatic polypeptide
    • Delta cells secrete somatostatin
    • Epsilon cells secrete ghrelin.
