Correct Answer - Option 2 : Third generations computers

The correct answer is Third generations of computers.

  • 1965-1975 was an era of Third generations of computers.
  • An electronic device that accepts data and processes it into useful information is called a Computer.
  • In 1822, Charles Babbage conceptualized and began developing the Difference Engine, considered to be the first automatic computing machine.

  • Generations of Computers:
  • Ist Generation: (1942-1955)
    • Vacuum tubes were used in circuits.
    • These computers were very large in size.
    • They required a large amount of electricity.
    • They produced more heat.
    • They were less revival.
    • Ex.: ENIAC, UNIVAC.
  • IInd Generation: (1955-1964)
    • Vacuum tubes were replaced by transistors in circuits.
    • Small size as compared to Ist Generation computers.
    • Less amount of heat Generation.
    • Less electricity consumption.
    • Ex.: IBM 350
  • IIIrd Generation: (1964-1975)
    • Transistors were replaced by I.C. in circuits. (I.C.- Integrated circuits)
    • Small size as compared to IInd Generation computer.
    • Less amount of heat as compared to IInd Generation computer.
    • Less electricity consumption.
    • Faster and more accurate than the IInd Generation computer.
    • Ex.: IBM 360/370
  • IVth Generation: (1975-2010)
    • The first microprocessor, Intel 4004 chip was discovered by Ted Hoff and was made commercially available in 1971. This led to the introduction of personal computers.
    • This Generation saw revised versions of computers being introduced in the form of laptops and tablets
    • GUI – Graphical User Interface was developed during this phase.
    • Ex: Apple-II, STAR 1000
  • Vth Generation: (2010 & Beyond)
    • It is based on the technique of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
    • The computer can understand spoken words.
    • Scientists are constantly working to increase the processing power of computers.
    • They are trying to create a computer with real IQ with the help of advanced programming and technologies.
    • Advancement in the functioning of laptops, palmtops, etc.
    • Ex.: IBM Watson
