Correct Answer - Option 3 : Least, efficient waveform

Following are the advantages of using a sine waveform in electrical circuits.

  • Sinusoids are invariant in their waveshape when subjected to time-domain differentiation and integration.
    • cosine and sine are actually the same waveforms with 90 degrees phase difference.
    • so it produces a minimum disturbance in the electrical circuits during operation.
  • A two winding transformer can easily and efficiently change voltage levels in a power system for sinusoidal voltages.
  • A broad class of periodic and aperiodic waveforms can be expressed as a sum of harmonically related sinusoids.
  • About 80% of our power system load being an Induction Motor, the efficiency of an Induction Motor is maximum for a sinusoidal voltage over other waveforms.
