The following points should be remembered about first class brick work:

1. Tolerance in dimensions is ± 3%.

2. Water absorption less than 15 %.

3. Compressive strength greater than 10.7 N/mm2.

4.  Cement sand ratio of mortar should be 1:3 to 1:6.

5.  Curing period is of 10 days.

6.  The thickness of mortar joint shall be greater than 5 mm.

 7. Used for exterior wall brick work, short columns and arches.
