Correct Answer - Option 3 : width and thickness of the section

Concepts:

As per Indian Standards, the rolled steel flats designated on the basis of its width and thickness.

For illustration, a rolled steel flat designated as 50 ISF 8 which implies that:

The first number means the width of flat (in this case 50 mm) and 2nd number written in last is its thickness (in this case 8 mm). The middle three letters ‘ISF’ stands ‘Indian Standard Flat’.

Additional Information:

1. For a steel flat, the minimum radius of gyration is given as

\(r = \frac{t}{\sqrt{12}}\)

Where t is the thickness of flat

2.  They are mostly used as a base plate in steel columns.
