Correct Answer - Option 2 : 1987

The correct answer is 1987.

  • The Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 was created to provide a statutory foundation for legal aid programs across the country.
  • After the Amendment Act of 1994 made some changes to the Act, it was eventually put into effect on November 9th, 1995.
  • The Act's implementation was aided by Hon. Mr. Justice R.N. Mishra, the then Chief Justice of India.
  • Article 39A of the Indian Constitution states that "the state shall ensure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity," and that "the state shall provide free legal aid, by appropriate legislation or schemes or in any other manner, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disability."
  • On December 5, 1995, the National Legal Services Authority was established. On July 17, 1997, His Lordship Hon. Dr. Justice A.S. Anand, Judge, Supreme Court of India, assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority.
  • His Lordship took efforts to establish the National Legal Services Authority shortly after taking office.
