LED works on which of the following principles ?
1. It works on the principle of electro luminance.
2. LED is designed to experience breakdown at a specified reverse bias voltage.
3. LED is basically like an ordinary PN-junction diode but normally operated in reverse biased condition.

Correct Answer - Option 1 : It works on the principle of electro luminance.

The correct answer is Electro luminance.

  • Light Emitting Diode (LED) work on the Principle of  Electro luminance
  • Light Emitting Diode:
    • It is a semiconductor device.
    • They emit light when an electric current passes through them.
    • LED lights are ideal for numerous applications including night lighting, art lighting, and outdoor lighting.
  • Electroluminescence:
    • It is the non-thermal conversion of electrical energy into light energy.
    • It is an optical process that leads to the generation of photons as a result of the radiative recombination of holes and electrons during the passage of an electric current through a material.
  • LEDs work on the principle of Electroluminescence.
  • On passing a current through the diode, minority charge carriers and majority charge carriers recombine at the junction. On recombination, energy is released in the form of photons.
