Correct Answer - Option 3 : Tamluk

The correct answer is Tamluk.

  • The foremost Indo-Roman trading station in Eastern India was Tamulk.
  • Archaeological excavation at Tamralipti by the ASI in 1954 found many objects from different parts of the world.
  • Roman amphorae and Greco-Roman gold coins were excavated from the port site indicating good trade contacts of this region with the Roman Empire.
  • Tamulk kingdom was bounded by the Bay of Bengal in the south, river Rupnarayana in the east and Subarnarekha in the west.
  • In ancient India, Tamulk, also known as Tamralipta, was a thriving business port, functioning as the exit point for the Mauryan trade routes for the south and south-east.
  • The port was the gateway for sailors, traders and missionaries of ancient kingdoms on the east coast.
  • Please note that Tamralipta means copper which was mined nearby at Ghatsila in Singhbum and exported through Tamulk port.
