The correct answer is 2 only.

• The speaker has to vacate his office earlier than his tenure in the following cases-
  • if he ceases to be a member of the Lok Sabha. Hence, Statement 2 is correct.
  • if he resigns by writing to the Deputy Speaker. Hence, Statement 1 is incorrect.
  • if he is removed by a resolution passed by a majority of all the members of the Lok Sabha. Such a resolution can be moved only after giving 14 days' advance notice.

• The Speaker is elected by the Lok Sabha from amongst its members.
• Please note that when a resolution for the removal of the Speaker is under consideration of the House, he cannot preside at the sitting of the house, although he may be present. 
• The Speaker adjourns the house or suspends the meeting in the absence of a quorum. 
• He does not vote in the first instance. But he has the casting vote which he uses when there is a tie.
• He also presides over a joint sitting of the two houses of the Parliament.
