Correct Answer - Option 3 : A 100 HP A.C. three-phase motor

Explanation:-

3-phase motors are better than single-phase motor because of the following reasons:-

  • A single-phase motor draws significantly more current than the equivalent 3-phase motor.
  • Voltage in 3-phase supply is 1.5 times higher than single-phase supply.
  • Only about 75% as much copper wire is required for distributes 3-Phase power as it is required for distributing the same amount of Single-phase power.
  • Smaller conductors can be used in 3-phase power supplies and therefore it makes it 3-phase more efficient at supplying power to large electrical machines.

Therefore three-phase motor is more compact and less costly than a single-phase motor of the same voltage and rating (above 10 HP) as a single-phase AC motor.
